Since PW is intended for personal email addresses utilizing strings such as common surnames, place names, dictionary words and generic strings and are intended for lawful and non-infringing use, there should be few conflicts with trademark rights.

However, Trademark owners are offered peace of mind with the availability of several Defensive Registrations products.

  1. Defensive Sponsorships. A PW Defensive Sponsorship allows the Sponsor to block the resale of PW email addresses and domain names for a specified PW Domain. Eligibility is open to registered and common law trademark holders. No proof of trademark rights needs to be supplied. A Defensive Sponsorship may be converted to an active PW community at any time. Click here for more details.
  2. Open Registrations. For strings in the form of "abc.def.pw", PW Registry does not limit normal registrations to a person's common name or nickname. Registrations are completely unrestricted and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Therefore, if trademark owners own strings shared with common names or words, they are encouraged to secure protection of their trademarks through a normal domain name registration. 3. PW IP Claims. PW IP Claims is an annual trademark watching service. Results are delivered via email every time there is a match during the 12 month subscription. PW IP Claims are available only PW Accredited registrars. Click here to find a Registrar.

PW Registry also has a Domain Name Dispute Policy administered by our exclusive dispute provider, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. To review our Dispute policy, Dispute Rules and to submit a Dispute, visit the PW Dispute Website.
